Delete all bookmarks upon exit?
When I quit Firefox or leave the computer, can I get all the items from my Foxmarks deleted automati 1cc8 cally?
Foxmarks is an ideal online bookmark hoster, but recently I found that when I reopen Firefox, all my Foxmarks items are still there. It will show my personal favorites to the public if I use Foxmarks-extended Firefox on a public computer. So can I just ask if there's any option where I can tick that will delete all my foxmarks items automatically?
I've noticed that the logo kind of looks like a swastika! I'm not passing judgment on you, just suggesting that maybe you rethink the thing a little. There may be a lot of subconscious (and not so subconscious) negative connotations associated with it, not to mention bad karma. I'd change it if I was you.
- Thanks for the comment. We think that your read is a bit of a stretch (it looks more like an X to us than anything else), but we appreciate the feedback nonetheless. At any rate, we're in the midst of rethinking our look anyway -- which almost certainly will result in a new logo -- so hopefully your concern will be short-lived. --Todd 13:26, 28 August 2007 (EDT)
IE toolbar for foxmarks
I would like to be able to use my bookmarks from fierfox in IE but it is not possable with out having to redo all the information that i have stored on fokmarks bookmarks.
Import MyFoxmarks to local Firefox session
How can I easily import MyFoxmarks to replace my local Firefox bookmarks?
- Generally the easiest way is to install the Foxmarks extension in the Firefox browser and download them that way. However, if you feel an easier method would be valuable, feel free to leave us a suggestion at Foxmarks:_Suggestions_for_Improvements! --Foxworth 17:51, 18 October 2007 (UTC)
Inability to sync bookmarks after 2.0 upgrade
As of today's date & time(0400 GMT 19/12/2007) I am unable to sync or access my bookmarks at Fox marks.
I either get a message that Foxmarks is "Busy" or a message "merging file" or words to that effect, that hangs for ever and a day, ie in excess of 10 minutes, causing me to "cancel" the operation.
Fox marks is WONDERFUL, and initially when not so many knew about it, it worked beautifully. Now though, it is becoming a waste of time if this issue is not addressed promptly.
If it would help in any way I would be willing to donate, but currently you don't show any way that this can be done.
please, Please, PLEASE look into this access problem as soon as possible. The alternative is that we will be loosing interest and reluctantly deleting our accounts.
Same issue as previous poster: I upgraded Foxmarks when prompted yesterday and now it will not sync... just hangs. This new update is not working. This product was perfect before the update. Anyway to rollback?
- You can rollback by visiting the Foxmarks download page and select 'Version History' https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addons/versions/2410 -- but be warned, support for Foxmarks version 1.0.1 on the server side won't be around for very much longer.
Also when I visit My Foxmarks which I assume is a new feature, I get an error:
The My.Foxmarks bookmarks server is currently overwhelmed. We will not be able to provide you with your bookmarks at this time.
We apologize for this inconvenience.
- See our blog for more details on the upgrade, how it's overwhelming our servers, and steps you can take to help us mitigate the problems. We expect things to straighten up and fly right in a couple days' time; I can assure you that we are working quite diligently to remedy these issues. (Also, my.foxmarks.com should be working better now, though large bookmark sets may still have issues loading the interface.) --Foxworth 21:18, 19 December 2007 (UTC)
Server Unavailable Writing to Sync File
I have 3 machines, a desktop Windows XP SP 2, a laptop Windows XP SP 2 and a Linux machine running Ubuntu 7.3.?. Firefox is 2.0.0.11 on all. Foxmarks is 2.0.34 on all. I finally got the desktop to sync with the server, and that seems to work fine. I have tried on both the Linux and the laptop to get them to sync. In each case, the sync file is downloaded, merge takes place, and then during the "writing to sync file" the server becomes unavailable after what seems like a minute or two. That's it. These machines will repeat this process endlessly, never actually able to sync. Meanwhile the desktop reports that it is able to sync and seems to do so about once an hour (which IMHO is overkill). I am able to open "My Foxmarks" with my browser and what I see on the server is correct as far as I can see. Is there something I'm missing that will allow the other two machines to sync?
- This is symptomatic of the problems described in the blog. The machine that successfully synchronized is just quickly checking in with the server, which doesn't hit the Foxmarks server very hard, so finishes just fine, whereas the other machines are trying to transfer a bigger payload. As server load decreases over the next couple days, you'll see improved performance. --Foxworth 18:39, 21 December 2007 (UTC)
Update: The Linux machine finally synchronized. The next attempt to synch from both the Desktop and the Linux machine both reported "Internal Server Error". Current status is that the Linux machine has synchronized again and the desktop shows a status of "Server Currently unavailable." Maybe it will all sort itself out when the server load levels out. I still have to get the laptop into the mix.
- Yep, once the server tsunami subsides, I think it'll work just fine. If not, let us know! --Foxworth 00:25, 22 December 2007 (UTC)
All three machines have synchronized according to the status shown on each. I'll need to watch how the process goes to be sure that the desktop is the primary and the other two pickup the changes. Are there some settings that will reflect these roles for each? Thanks for a nice add-on.
- You're welcome! There's actually no such thing as a primary or secondary role for your browsers--they're all treated as peers, capable of making and receiving changes. Any conflicts are resolved programatically when possible, and you're asked to manually approve any that aren't easily resolved. --Foxworth 19:28, 24 December 2007 (UTC)
How to remove all of your bookmarks
I reinstalled my OS without saving my bookmarks - because they are foxmarks of course. No need to back them up when that's the reason I'm using foxmarks.
So after installing the new OS I crank up firefox and add foxmarks as a addon. Then of couse I put in my username and password.
Now instead of foxmarks recognizing the need to ask me which way I want to sync my bookmarks it uploads the bookmarks from my plain jane firefox install.
Nice. Now all of my bookmarks are gone.
- Sorry about that. This edge case is covered in Foxmarks: Error: Missing Bookmarks After v2 Install, but we never really intended the server version of the bookmarks as a backup, so it's always a good idea to synchronize across multiple machines to prevent data loss. --Foxworth 22:07, 4 January 2008 (UTC)
It would be nice if foxmarks had the ability to "save" or backup the bookmarks. It seems to me the very same problem would have occured if I had installed foxmarks on another computer. Since it would have been a new install it would have done the same thing.
My biggest dissapointment out of the whole thing is that when I log into myfoxmarks there are no options. I'm stuck looking at the pos bookmarks that come with mozilla.
I keep looking for a button... Revert.. Restore.. Rewind.. Undo.. History..
Honestly, you have a neat idea and you guys have done a lot of work - but the lack of the one feature that I really Need is a deal breaker for me.
- You can view your version 1.0.1 bookmarks under http://my.foxmarks.com/v1/ to confirm that's what you need -- presently we shy away from being a "backup" solution since we've not scaled our servers to really serve that purpose, but we can't rule that out as a future option. Definitely check out the page I linked too previously, though, as that should get you the bookmarks you're looking for--this is just a one-time issue, and once you've upgraded to version 2 and have your bookmarks synchronized properly, you shouldn't see this again. (We're also fixing this up soon to prevent additional occurrences; see http://blog.foxmarks.com/ for more details.) --Foxworth 23:23, 7 January 2008 (UTC)
Folder management
Sorry for my poor English. Foxmarks is a great add-on for firefox. I have two computers ,one computer for work another for playing games. I use foxmarks to synchronize all bookmarks on these two computers. But I don't want to show or synchronize some folders or bookmarks on the computer which for playing game. Why? Those folders or bookmarks might be data sheets so I don't need to synchronize them. And I would like to encrypt some folders to make them more security. Could I decide that which folders or bookmarks to be synchronized ?
- That's a popular feature request that is not yet implemented. Stay tuned! --Foxworth 18:47, 15 January 2008 (UTC)
Therefore, these functions will be developed? It would be an exciting news, I am looking forward to the completion of new features. :)
- Foxmarks looks nice, but I have some private URLs, and there's no way I'm going to expose those to the outside world. Even a simple way of not synchronizing selected folders would be good enough (as opposed to individual URLs). Sorry, but I've had to uninstall foxmarks (and it's also been nearly six months since the above post ...). :-( --DK 01:59, 3 June 2008 (UTC)
- Wow, talk about bad timing. We announced the beta for this feature last month: http://blog.foxmarks.com/?p=131 --Foxworth 17:16, 5 June 2008 (UTC)
Thunderbird support?
Will Foxmarks support thunderbird?I mean that if we could synchronize all address books in the thunderbird on different computer? It was only my imagination. XD
- We don't have any immediate plans for Thunderbird support, but it certainly seems to be a popular feature request. --Foxworth 00:55, 26 January 2008 (UTC)
Bookmarks Toolbar Folder
I would like the option to NOT synchronize which folder is marked as the Bookmarks Toolbar Folder. I would like to have all my bookmarks sync'd, but I have one folder that I use as the toolbar folder at work, and a different folder that I use at home. This used to work a while ago, but now I have to set the toolbar folder every time I change computers.
- That's odd, I'm not sure how that worked for you previously, but selective synchronization of bookmarks is a popular feature request. Stay tuned! --Foxworth 19:31, 16 January 2008 (UTC)
Don't update bookmarks?
I have not been able to find information about this anywhere here but I was wondering if there was a way to use the Foxmarks www page but to not have it change the bookmarks on the computers
I would like to be able to access the foxmark page and for it to keep syncing with the computers and whatnot but I would like to keep the computers as they are.
Thanks! This is a great utility and a big help, you guys and gals rock.
- Thanks for the kind words! I'm not sure exactly what you mean, though--do you want to be able to make changes at http://my.foxmarks.com/, but not have those changes synchronized to your other computers? We pretty much treat my.foxmarks.com like another computer in your collection, so I'm not sure how we'd achieve that, exactly. However, we often get requests for what we call "selective synchronization", where certain bookmarks and folders are excluded from synchronization--if we ever implement that, you could have certain folders show up at my.foxmarks.com that don't show up on your other computers. Perhaps that would suffice? --Foxworth 22:54, 4 April 2008 (UTC)
